Francis N. (Jeep) Allen, a former Lapwai resident and retired Seattle longshoreman, died of cancer Sunday at Swedish Hospital at Seattle. He was 63.

Francis was a Nez Perce Tribal member, and was born Dec. 25, 1928, at Lewiston, ID to Mark and Irene Allen.

He was raised and graduated from schools at Lapwai and Culdesac and went into the U.S. Army after graduation.

He married Lucille Vincent of Desmet, Idaho.

He was a King County resident for 38 years, and worked as a longshoreman before retiring.

Survivors include his wife of Seattle and five children, all in the Desmet area; four brothers, John Allen of Winchester, Clifford Allen Sr. of Culdesac, Mark Allen Jr. of Culdesac, and Phillip Allen Sr. of Lapwai; three sisters, Agnes Allen Tatum of Craigmont, Connie Allen Moore of Winchester and Delphine Allen Rose of San Diego.

He had a halfsister, a halfbrother and a younger brother who had died previously.
