Marvin Belvin Almaas
1950 - 2017
Marvin was born in Tacoma, WA to wonderful parents Oscar and Esther Almaas. Marvin remained in Tacoma to follow in his fathers foot steps and became a Longshoreman immediately following his high school graduation from Franklin Pierce High School. He later met Diane,"Pooky" as they lovingly called each other, and she became his beautiful bride in 1974. They enjoyed a couple years together as husband and wife before having their first daughter, Lynn.
Soon after their second daughter Kerri came along to complete their family. Marvin enjoyed life with his family taking them camping and several vacations over the years. Marvin had several hobbies he enjoyed, two of his favorites were golf and his love of guns. During his years of golf Marvin made a hole in one while golfing at Linden Golf & Country Club in Puyallup.
Target shooting was another way he spent his free time in which he earned several awards in competitions he competed in. Marvin finally became a Papa in 2007 when his first grandson Ian Marvin was born later followed by "his girl" Lauren, then last but not least Chase came and joined the family. Marvin retired from the ILWU in 2012. After many years of work he looked forward to retirement the most, unfortunately his retirement would be cut short with the diagnoses of cancer in 2014.
He fought it hard and brave never complaining once. He was a wonderful man, husband, father and grandfather. There will be a huge void in the lives of all who loved him but his memory will stay in the hearts and minds of his wife Diane, daughters, grandchildren and close friends.
