Born in Rochester Pennsylvania to the late George and Evelyn Eckert, Mike passed peacefully surrounded by his family. Mike graduated from Federal Way High School in 1975. He loved football and went on to Wenatchee Valley College on a football scholarship. Mike found his calling in carpentry, working many years in residential and commercial construction. Later, he became a 3rd generation longshoreman in the Port of Seattle as a member of the ILWU Local 19. Mike never stopped working with his hands if it was building, wood carving or art.

Mike is survived by his four children Joshua M. Eckert, Philip M. Eckert, James M. Eckert (Dani) and Jamie M. Eckert. His sister Bonnie L. Eckert-McHenry (Dan). Opa to nine beautiful grandchildren and nephew to Pauline and Alan Squire of Potomac Maryland. Mike also leaves behind his longtime companion Kathleen Carson.
