Irvin Hansen
Irvin Hansen November 8, 1937 - February 24, 2023 Irvin Lee Hansen, loving dad and grandpa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his three daughters on February 24, 2023.
Irv, also known as "Pee Wee" by many of his friends, was born November 8, 1937, in Everett, WA. He grew up in Everett, graduating from Everett High School in 1955 and attended Everett Junior College and ran track. He worked as a commercial fisherman in Alaska before returning to Everett and starting work as a longshoreman for 40 years. He also served as the Local ILWU 32 Union President and business manager.
Irv met the love of his life, Joanne, in 1957 and they married in 1960. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the US Army, where they were stationed for 2 years in Texas. They then made their forever home on Lake Stevens in 1963.
Irv loved living on the lake, teaching his children and the neighborhood kids how to water ski. He enjoyed fishing with his family, catching crawdads and hosting crawdad feeds in the summer. 4th of July was always a fun party hosted at his home.
When his daughters were growing up, he helped with Snowcap Ski School and chaperoned the ski buses every Saturday in the winter. He enjoyed taking his family on many ski vacations and Disneyland trips. Hawaii was a favorite vacation spot as well.
Irv took up the sport of golf prior to his retirement in 1999. He and Joanne spent winters in Palm Desert, California, where he golfed almost every day - even getting a "hole-in-one"!
He was preceded in death by his parents Evangeline and Haakon Hansen and his wife of 51 years, Joanne, in 2011. He is survived by his daughters, Kandis Shrout (Jerry), Dawn Hansen, Paige Stober (Darren); his grandchildren, Kayla Badillo (Ian), Branden Shrout (Taylor), Cade Stober, Faith Stober; great grandson Bennett Badillo; sister-in-law, Kathy Spade (Dave), brother-in-law John Carter; many nieces and nephews; and extended family in Norway.
He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and was a member of Sons of Norway/Normanna Hall since 1953. He was also a member of The Elks and VFW. He really liked to play cribbage and sudoku and was an avid reader. In his later years he started playing pinochle.
Irv was known for his gift of gab and never-ending jokes. He was a very supportive and generous father and grandfather. He went out of his way to attend every sporting event of his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
Irv's family would like to thank Yorkshire Homestead in Everett for taking great care of him in his final days. The family will hold a private graveside ceremony at Cypress Lawn at his final resting place next to Joanne.
Friends are invited to join the family for a dessert reception on Thursday, March 9th at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4504 Broadway Everett, WA 98203.
