Edwin R. Hicks

Edwin Hicks born August 8, 1940 and passed away on January 5, 2024. He went by Ted but his name was Edwin. He was married 61 years and died 39 minutes away from his 62nd wedding anniversary. He was the oldest son of Randall Hicks who joined the union when it started. He is survived by his wife Suzanne and 3 sons, Randall, Mark and Patrick. Daughter in laws Kathy and Carina. Three grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He started longshoring in 1961 as a “son” and became an "A" registered member of Local 19 two years later in 1963. The was on the safety committee for several years and took it very personal when someone got hurt.

He was injured in 1980 while longshoring. He never stopped loving his union. In fact some of you are still playing cards on the tables he built. 

He grew up on Hood's Canal and loved being by the water. he also enjoyed woodworking, boating and the time spent down south in the sunshine.

Sadly he passed away from pneumonia caused by Covid-19.
