George "Gig" Larson
1946 - 2017
June 10, 1946-May 19, 2017 After battling cancer like a true warrior for almost 20 years, George "Gig" William Larson passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 19, 2017. Gig was born in Everett, Washington on June 10, 1946 to Noble and Margaret Larson and resided in the Everett/Lake Stevens area his entire life. He grew up attending Everett and Cascade High school and shortly after high school started work in 1964 at Scott Paper Company and Casual Longshoring at Local 32 Everett.
Fifteen years later, in 1979, he became a registered Longshoreman. He was very proud of his union service culminating in 44 years of life on the waterfront. He retired in 2006 after serving as the president and business agent/dispatcher for many years. Gig grew up playing all sports but found a special place in his heart for baseball. He started playing baseball in the early fifties and continued his career through high school to where work and life decided baseball was on hold.
He picked up his passion for baseball again when his son started little league and he began coaching with his brother Jim. He was active in Lake Stevens sports and there wasn't a single sport he wasn't willing to coach. Later Gig started as an assistant coaching in Marysville for his grandson Dane's team before starting a select baseball program, the Marysville Outlaws, with his son, Paul.
The Outlaws Baseball Club went on a five-year run that awarded several tournament championships and bids to the CABA World Series 3 different times. Gig played to win! Gig had many grandchildren in sports and did his very best to attend as many games as he could. In 1980 Gig became a friend of Bill W. and over the next 37 years helped many people regain their lives and futures. Gig loved being outdoors and spending a lot of his time on the water fishing with his friends and family. He loved salmon fishing, hunting in his younger years and even tried his hand at farming in Granite Falls but found much better hands playing poker.
In his later years he spent time at the many casinos in Washington and often ventured to Reno to gamble with his wife Mary and many more family and friends. He always enjoyed a good debate with anyone who would give him the time. Gig was preceded in death by parents, Noble and Margaret Larson; brother, Paul Larson Vietnam 1968; niece, McKenzie Larson; nephew, Shawn Larson and sister-in-law, Teri Mendenhall.
Gig is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Larson; brother, James Larson (Patti); children, Paula Brown, Stephanie Widness (Kirk), Todd Larson, Kim Foglesong (Gary), Paul Larson (Fiancé Laura); grandchildren, Brandon Solomon (Annie), Tanner Solomon, Dane Widness, Chelsea Widness, Cole Brown, Jacob Brown, Grady Foglesong, Connor Larson, Cassy Foglesong, Claire Widness and Sienna Larson; great grandchildren, Gage and Gia Solomon; nephews, Scott Larson, Jeff Larson, Cris Larson, Bret Larson and Cory Mendenhall; niece, Shannon Palacios; and brother-in-law, Willard Alleckson along with a large extended family and too many life long friends to mention. Gig lived and loved with every bit of his being, a caring, strong, empathetic man, he was lager than life. He will be sorely missed and forever in our hearts.
