Herbert Julius LENZ Died on April 16, 2004, at home in the presence of his family. He is survived by Irene, his wife of 64 years, one brother, four sisters, and six children.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The oldest of eight, he was born on April 27, 1918, in Taylor, N.D.

He married Irene Harris in Juneau, AK., on Sept. 30, 1939. He worked as a gold miner, carpenter, and longshoreman in Juneau before moving to Seattle in 1950. He longshored in Aberdeen and Seattle until 1981, when he retired as a member of ILWU #19.

He was also a commercial fisherman for over 30 years. He will be remembered for his hard work ethic, sense of humor, selfless love, and profound generosity--especially toward his family.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 24, at 10 a.m., at Washington Memorial.
