Russian Union of Soviet Friendship Society USSR - USA - 1977 Visit to Seattle and ILWU Local 19
In the Fall of 1977, 26 men and women of the Union of Soviet Friendship Society arrived in Seattle for a three day visit on November 15 - 17, 1977. The group of 19 men and 7 women had previously stopped in Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, Minneapolis, Los Angeles and San Francisco while on their 13 day tour of the U.S. After their visit to Seattle, the group traveled to Vancouver to begin their tour of Canada. There was a committee of Seattle Trade Unionist's who hosted the Russians while in town. They toured Seattle by bus and then had a dinner reception at the Sorrento Hotel. The next day they toured the Port of Seattle and the Southcenter Mall in Tukwila. Afterwards they attended a luncheon at the Seattle Central College. That evening they attended a dinner hosted by ILWU Local 19 at their Dispatch Hall. On last day of their stay, they had brunch at the El Centro de la Raza before their departure to Canada.
