Seattle ILWU Auxiliary 3
Before the ILWU was founded in 1937, The ILA was the Longshore Union on the West Coast. Seattle was ILA Local 38-12 founded in 1916. The Seattle ILA Auxiliary was founded in 1934 and then became ILWU Auxiliary #3 in 1937.
Purpose of a Union Auxiliary
a: Educating
members in trade unionism, union problems, and current political
issues
b: Taking political action to obtain legislation in the interest of
labor and to oppose anti-labor legislation.
c: Buying products made only and distributed only under conditions
fair to organized labor.
d: Assisting the union by voluntary picketing.
e: Aiding and advancing the economic welfare of the workers.
f: Assisting the workers whenever possible to secure increases in
wage levels, reduction of their hours of toil, and improvement of
their working conditions
